Leading the sector is <strong>China Construction Bank <\/strong>with a SPV of USD5.0 billion, followed by <strong>ICBC<\/strong>, <strong>Agricultural Bank of China<\/strong>, and <strong>Bank of China<\/strong>. Together, these four brands contribute nearly USD18.0 billion in SPV, underscoring the sector\u2019s firm commitment to sustainability initiatives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>State Grid Corporation of China <\/strong>remains as the leading brand in the utilities sector for 2025 with a SPV of USD4.7 billion. The brand also ranks highest in the global utilities sector across all three ESG perception pillars \u2013 environmental, social, and governance \u2013 reflecting its comprehensive sustainability reputation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Scott Chen, Managing Director, Brand Finance China, <\/strong>commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>\u201c<strong><em>Moutai <\/em><\/strong><em>and<\/em><strong><em> TikTok\/Douyin\u2019s <\/em><\/strong><em>strong performance in this year\u2019s Sustainability Perceptions Index highlights the rise of Chinese brands embedding ESG into their growth strategies. Overstating progress creates reputational risk but failing to communicate genuine action means leaving millions in brand value on the table. As pressure from investors and regulators grows, clarity and consistency will become the key differentiators.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,<strong> Huawei <\/strong>leads with a positive gap value of over USD251 million among Chinese brands ranked&nbsp;this year, signalling significant untapped potential in ESG communications. This gap indicates that Huawei\u2019s actual ESG performance exceeds public perception, meaning that the brand could unlock substantial brand value by more effectively showcasing its sustainability initiatives, technological innovation in green ICT, and responsible governance practices.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global Insights<\/strong><strong>\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apple<\/strong> <strong>retains the highest total SPV of any brand at USD39.0 billion.<\/strong> This reflects strong consumer belief that Apple is acting sustainably, despite ongoing criticism around labour conditions and environmental impact. The Index assesses perception, not performance, and Apple\u2019s position highlights the power of belief in shaping brand value.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Microsoft<\/strong> <strong>ranks second in overall value but leads on untapped potential. With a positive gap value exceeding USD5.6 billion<\/strong>, Microsoft\u2019s actual sustainability performance is significantly stronger than it is perceived to be. This gap represents brand value that could be unlocked through clearer communication of ESG progress.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tesla<\/strong> <strong>has lost over USD7.3 billion in sustainability-driven brand value. <\/strong>In 2023, Brand Finance identified USD4.1 billion of sustainability value at risk for Tesla, due to a widening gap between its strong environmental image and weaker governance and social performance. That risk has now become reality. Tesla\u2019s total brand value has dropped from USD66.2 billion to USD43.0 billion, with its Sustainability Perceptions Value (SPV) falling from USD17.8 billion to just USD10.4 billion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenhushing, where brands hold back from communicating genuine ESG achievements to avoid criticism, remains widespread<strong>. Brand Finance analysis shows that 98 of the 500 brands have a positive gap value of over USD100 million, revealing a significant amount of unrealised value.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sustainability continues to influence brand choice, particularly in premium sectors. In the luxury auto category, sustainability accounts for 23% of brand choice, double the figure for the broader automotive market.
